Assam can become a medical tourism hub

Assam is one of the fastest growing states in India and is open to investments. Mr Jayanta said that Assam has a huge geographical advantage which was not used. The state has the potential to turn into a major medical tourism hub. In a matter of two hours flight, several neighbouring countries can touchdown Guwahati. In less than 1,000 kms, many countries close by can be reached. Myanmar, Nepal, Bhutan and China are close by, he added. Assam will be the medical tourism hub for south East Asia. The ongoing process of establishing of 17 cancer hospitals in the state is a major step.

ITIs to be given status of degree

The Skill, Employment & Entrepreneurship minister said that technical education is our future. ‘No amount of traditional degrees will guarantee a job, but on the other hand, technical education will.” He added, “The Government of Assam decided to give ITIs the status of a degree. By the end of 2024, there will be an ITI is every block and the extra fee that the private institutions impose would be borne by the government.

The British educational system was not practical and had no use in life. We are creating an eco-system in which no one should think if he or she would find a job, he said. Skill based education is the need of the hour and the Assam Skill University (ASU) at Mangaldai will become fully operational by 2027 and churn out 10,000 students every year.

Exhorting students to take up skill-based education, the minister said that the Government was willing to extend all help. He advised the large gathering of students who had assembled from various colleges in and around Assam to arm themselves with skills to procure jobs.
