A senior police officer’s decision to submit his resignation has drawn attention in Madhya Pradesh, coming days after a change in the leadership of Sagar district, where an investigation into deaths linked to illicit liquor remains a major public concern.
Anurag Sujania, a 2014 batch Indian Police Service officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre, submitted his resignation on November 2, citing personal reasons, according to multiple reports. His resignation followed the state government’s October 27 order transferring him from Superintendent of Police, Sagar, to the post of Assistant Inspector General at Police Headquarters in Bhopal.

The government appointed 2016 batch IPS officer Sanjeev Kumar Sinha as the new Superintendent of Police in Sagar. The administrative reshuffle also affected senior officials in Sagar and Dewas districts.
Sagar liquor tragedy and administrative changes
The transfer took place in the aftermath of the Banda illicit liquor tragedy in Sagar district. Reports say at least 16 deaths were officially confirmed after people consumed poisonous liquor in September. The incident led to an investigation into suspected illegal liquor production and distribution, along with questions about enforcement and administrative oversight.

Sujania was serving as Sagar SP and overseeing the investigation when the transfer order was issued. The proximity of the transfer and his resignation has prompted public interest, but no official statement has established that the transfer caused his decision. His reported resignation letter cited personal reasons.
Anurag Sujania’s career in policing
Originally from Rajasthan, Sujania holds a Master of Technology degree. He joined the Indian Police Service in December 2014 and was confirmed in service in December 2017, according to reporting citing the Ministry of Home Affairs IPS Civil List.
Over his policing career, he has served as Superintendent of Police in Tikamgarh, Mandsaur, Morena and Sagar. He also held a posting at Police Headquarters in Bhopal before his Sagar assignment, where he served for approximately six months. These postings span district law enforcement and state police administration.
Resignation submitted, acceptance awaited
Submitting a resignation does not by itself establish that an officer has formally left the service. As of the latest reports reviewed for this article, there was no independently verified government confirmation that Sujania’s resignation had been accepted.
The next official communication will determine the status of his service and whether the resignation proceeds through the required administrative process. Until then, the confirmed development is his reported submission of a resignation citing personal reasons.
