AIIMS and IIT-Delhi develop Telerobotic Ultrasound System

Telerobotic Ultrasound System is a boon to doctors and patients alike especially during these Covid times. This innovation helps radiologists to perform scans with complete social distancing as the patients and doctors do not need to come in close contact with each other if they use this system. The access to remote ultrasound is possible now with a robotic arm.

This innovation promotes healthcare even in crisis and makes healthcare practices stronger to handle further pandemics without compromising on the safety. Not only this, the telerobotic ultrasound system makes healthcare more accessible to people staying in the remote areas as well as the ultrasound imaging would be possible even in rural areas of India. All that the radiologist sitting at another location has to do is to do the ultrasound probe remotely, and then transfer the ultrasound report to the monitors of the doctor at the patient location through Wi-Fi network. This not just allows remote outreach but global outreach as a doctor sitting in any part of the world can examine all the images and assess the patient.

The need of tele-health has never been felt as hard as it has been done since the year 2020. In the initial phases, people had been neglecting their health out of fear of getting infected. Innovations like these allows proper healthcare while ensuring safety.
