Vaccine milestone: 50% adults in India have received at least first dose

India completed administering 47.29 crore first doses on 26th August. As per the projected mid-year population count of 2020, the total population of the country of people of 18 years and above is approximately 94 crores. With the 47.29 crore first doses figure, India has crossed 50 per cent vaccination of the total adult population.

According to the Health Ministry, 15 per cent of the people of the country who fall in the age bracket of 18 years and above have received both the doses. The country has crossed 61.10 crore cumulative vaccinations.

Average of daily vaccinations for the month of August is higher at 52.16 lakh doses compared to that of the month of July in which 43.41 lakh doses had been administered on an average. As far as the health workers are concerned, 99 per cent of them have got their first dose, while 83 per cent have been administered both the doses. As per the records, all frontline workers have received their first dose, while 79 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Since the country is still witnessing the second wave, experts advise social gatherings for only fully vaccinated individuals. They have also been highlighting that vaccination does not provide full protection from Covid, rather reduces the severity of it and hence protective measures like handwash, and wearing of masks should not be neglected.
