Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar called on the political parties and its leaders to adhere to the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) that lists out dos and don’ts for the political parties and politicians ahead of elections.
What is MCC?
MCC is a set of norms and rules that the political parties and candidates to abide to till the completion of elections.
What is the importance of MCC?
MCC allows a level-playing field for both the political parties in the ruling governments and those not in power.
What changes after MCC comes into effect?
Soon after the MCC effect comes, the political parties in power both in the states and in the Centre should ensure that it the government machinery and resources at its disposal should not be used for campaigning. The parties in government cannot announce any policy, project or schemes that can influence the voters and their decisions. Even the ruling parties need to avoid advertising and publicity on achievements using governments money.
