For faster re-opening of economic activities and to ensure safety of people during the pandemic, CoWin has launched a new application programming interface (API). This would make it easier for organisations to get information about vaccinations and to verify the vaccination status of their employees.
With this new API one can easily get information through ‘Know Your Customer’s/Client’s Vaccination Status’ (KYC-VS), by entering mobile number and name of the person. There would be authenticity check of the person seeking information through a one time password (OTP). CoWin will then send the vaccine status of the individual to the verifying entity. The status would be either of the following relevant options – ‘not vaccinated’, ‘partially vaccinated’ or ‘fully vaccinated’.This is a consent-based and privacy-preserving feature.
Already a digitally verifiable certificate as a proof of vaccination is being provided by CoWin which people can save on their respective digital devices like smartphone, tablet, laptop or alternatively store in Digi-Locker and share it where and when required.
This new feature is for occasions when an entity does not need to see the certificate in full and would just need to know whether an individual has been vaccinated or not. This is primarily suitable for organizations who would like to know the vaccination status of their employees to resume work from offices or hotels that may want to know the vaccination status of their customers. It can come handy during railway reservation and flight bookings as well. The API has been introduced with the aim to gradually revive the socio-economic activities.
