It was the clarion call given by all panelists of ‘Role of Higher Educational Institutions in the Industry 4.0 to 5.0 age’ at the recently concluded IndiGlobal Bharat Summit-2023 at IIT Guwahati. Irrespective of the institution and city the panelists came from, all were unanimous on one count- integrating technology in curriculum was inevitable they said.
Shrikant Sinha, CEO, TASK said that while academic research is very important, including latest technologies is of paramount importance. Prof. Dhruba Kumar Bhattacharya Vice Chancellor Tezpur University, Assam was of the opinion that every institution should foster critical and problem solving skills and encourage the students to think deeply about the complex issues. We should analyze Information and propose solutions for the real world. Also we should promote multidisciplinary skills.
Prof. Md Iftekhar Hussain, Dean, School of Technology, North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) said, “The government can play a great role and frequent interaction between academia and industry is important. In the next generation, the digital twin is going to be one of the important technologies. It’s a virtualisation of many things. The industrial floor is using robots to great extent. In robots also the network technology plays a great role. So everything will be automated.
Arjun Singh, Senior Manager, Handicrafts and Carpet Sector Skill Council rooted for encouraging youth towards handloom sector which could be a good career for budding entrepreneurs. There is a need to bring handicrafts to the urban parts of the country from rural parts. In the year 2020-2021, about Rs 33,000 crore rupees of handicrafts products were exported.
Whatever handmade products are being produced in India 65% of the products are being exported. Similarly, 90% of the carpets produced in India is exported.
Shri Lalit Sharma, Director, Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (MoSDE), Guwahati – We should revise the institution’s curriculum and develop more incubation centers. For students entrepreneurship we need to understand their requirements. P Sojan Lal, Principal, MBITS said that every Institute needs to promote soft skills.
