IIT Bombay Professors appointed as Directors of IIT Delhi and Indore

IIT Bombay professor Rangan Banerjee has been appointed as the next director of IIT Delhi. Rangan Banerjee has completed BTech (Mechanical) from IIT Bombay. Later, he obtained a PhD (Mechanical Engineering), also from the same institute. He was associated with the Department of Energy and Sciences & Engineering at IIT Bombay, a department he helped start in 2007.

IIT Bombay’s dean of alumni and corporate relations and mechanical engineering professor Suhas Joshi has been appointed as director of IIT-Indore. Laxmidhar Behera, IIT Kanpur electrical engineering professor, is the next director of IIT-Mandi.

Former director professor V Ramgopal Rao said on Facebook ”We are delighted to inform you that Prof. Rangan Banerjee from the Energy Science and Engineering Department has been appointed as the next Director of IIT Delhi. Prof. Ramgopal Rao who was also a professor at IIT Bombay. Further, Prof. Suhas Joshi of the Mechanical Engineering Department has been appointed as the Director of IIT Indore. Prof. Joshi has been playing an exemplary role as the current Dean (Alumni and Corporate Relations) and is spearheading our fundraising initiatives. Prof. Banerjee played a stellar role at IITB as the former Dean (Research and Development). Both of them had earlier served as the Head of the Dept. Both of them are very well known for their research contributions and are Fellows of Indian National Academy of Engineering.
I am sure both IITD and IITI will reach greater heights under their leadership roles. Congratulations to both Profs. Banerjee and Joshi on being appointed as IIT Directors.

It is probably worth mentioning that current Directors of Kanpur, Dharwar and Patna are also from IIT Bombay.”
