Facebook appoints former bureaucrat Rajiv Aggarwal as the new public policy head

Rajiv Aggarwal has been appointed the new Public Policy Head of Facebook India. As part of Facebook India’s leadership team, he will be reporting to Ajit Mohan, Vice President & Managing Director of Facebook India. He will be succeeding Ankhi Das. In his new role, Aggarwal will be defining and leading important policy development initiatives for Facebook in India with focus on data protection & privacy, user safety, internet governance and inclusion.

The former bureaucrat comes with 26 years of experience as an Indian Administrative Services (IAS) officer, and has worked as a district magistrate in nine districts across Uttar Pradesh. Aggarwal has steered India’s first ever-national policy on Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) as joint secretary, department for promotion of industry and internal trade. He has been instrumental in the digital transformation of India’s IP offices. Later on he went to have a stint in Uber as Head of Public Policy for India and South Asia. Aggarwal had started his career as Assistant Mechanical Engineer in Indian Railways.
