Aster DM to Invest ₹134.4 Crore to Expand KIMSHEALTH Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram

Aster DM Healthcare

Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala: Healthcare infrastructure in Kerala is set for a significant boost as Aster DM Quality Care Ltd plans to invest approximately 134.4 crore to expand its KIMSHEALTH Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram.

The investment will be made through the company’s subsidiary, KIMS Health Care Management Ltd (KHML), whose board has approved the construction of a new hospital block along with optimisation of the existing facilities. The project is aimed at creating additional capacity and supporting the hospital’s future growth.

184 new beds to be added

One of the most significant aspects of the expansion is the addition of approximately 184 beds.

KIMSHEALTH Hospital currently has a capacity of around 795 beds. Once the project is completed, its total capacity is expected to rise to approximately 979 beds, giving the hospital greater scope to accommodate patients and expand its clinical services.

The project is expected to be completed on or before May 2028.

New block and better use of existing facilities

The planned investment will go towards constructing a new hospital block while also making better use of the existing infrastructure.

The company said the expansion is intended to address space constraints and facilitate the expansion of key medical specialties. With additional infrastructure, the hospital will be better positioned to accommodate growing patient demand and strengthen its healthcare services in the region.

A major healthcare hub in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram is an important healthcare centre in Kerala, serving not only residents of the city but also patients from surrounding areas who seek specialised and advanced medical treatment.

Increasing hospital capacity can therefore have a wider impact, particularly for patients requiring specialised care, procedures or longer hospital stays. The additional beds could also provide greater flexibility during periods of high demand.

134.4 crore investment backed by debt and equity

The expansion will be financed through a combination of 70 per cent debt and 30 per cent equity.

The investment reflects the company’s broader strategy of strengthening its healthcare infrastructure and expanding the capacity of its facilities.

The project also comes at a time when demand for organised healthcare services and specialised treatment continues to grow across India’s cities and emerging healthcare centres.

What the expansion means for patients

For patients, the development could translate into greater access to hospital beds and a wider range of medical services under one roof.

The combination of a new block and optimisation of existing facilities is expected to help KIMSHEALTH accommodate more patients while supporting the growth of key specialties.

With the project scheduled to be completed by 2028, the expansion represents a long-term investment in Thiruvananthapuram’s healthcare infrastructure.

Strengthening Kerala’s healthcare landscape

The 134.4-crore project is more than an expansion of physical infrastructure. It reflects the growing emphasis on strengthening tertiary healthcare capacity in major regional centres.

As KIMSHEALTH moves towards a capacity of nearly 1,000 beds, the project is expected to enhance the hospital’s ability to serve patients from Thiruvananthapuram and beyond.
