Two IPS Officers into CBI as DIG and SP

The Union government has approved the induction of two Indian Police Service officers into the Central Bureau of Investigation through lateral transfers from their existing central assignments.

Dharmender Kumar Meena, a 2012 batch Karnataka cadre IPS officer, has been appointed Deputy Inspector General in the CBI. He was serving as Senior Director at the National Technical Research Organisation in New Delhi.

E. Sai Charan Tejaswi, a 2014 batch Tamil Nadu cadre IPS officer, has been inducted as Superintendent of Police in the CBI. Before the transfer, he was serving as Assistant Director at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad.

The appointments were approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet and communicated through separate orders. The official IPS notification portal lists both inductions on October 23, while reports citing the underlying Department of Personnel and Training decisions date those approvals to October 21.

For Meena, the approved combined central deputation tenure extends up to August 26, 2029, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. For Tejaswi, the corresponding tenure extends up to December 14, 2027, or until further orders, whichever comes first. Both arrangements take effect from the dates the officers assume their new responsibilities.

The transfers bring officers with experience in technical intelligence and police training into the country’s premier central investigating agency. Their appointments are personnel decisions; no specific investigation or operational assignment has been announced in the cited orders.

The move is also of interest to Hyderabad, where the National Police Academy trains IPS officers and supports professional development across India’s police services.
