CENTRE APPOINTS SENIOR IPS OFFICERS

The Central Government has announced senior level appointments involving Indian Police Service officers across important central police and security organisations.

The appointments include responsibilities in the Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Border Security Force (BSF) and Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D).

The changes place experienced IPS officers in positions responsible for border security, organisational leadership, police research and capacity building.

Rajesh Kumar Appointed Additional Director General of ITBP

Rajesh Kumar, a 1998 batch IPS officer of the Maharashtra cadre, has been appointed Additional Director General of the Indo Tibetan Border Police.

According to the appointment details, his tenure will continue until September 24, 2030, subject to the applicable government orders.

The ITBP is responsible for guarding India’s border with China and also undertakes internal security and disaster response duties.

Rajesh Kumar’s appointment places him among the senior officers responsible for overseeing the organisation’s operations and administration.

Ashok Yadav Named Additional Director General of BSF

Ashok Yadav, a 1998 batch IPS officer of the Kerala cadre, has been appointed Additional Director General of the Border Security Force.

He was serving as Inspector General in the BSF.

His appointment is for three years from the date he assumes charge, or until October 25, 2029, whichever is earlier.

The BSF plays a central role in guarding India’s international borders, particularly with Pakistan and Bangladesh.

The new assignment gives Ashok Yadav greater responsibilities within the force’s senior leadership.

Mrinalini Shrivastava Appointed Inspector General in BPR&D

Mrinalini Shrivastava, a 2002 batch IPS officer of the Sikkim cadre, has been appointed Inspector General in the Bureau of Police Research and Development on deputation.

Before this appointment, she was serving as Director at the National Disaster Management Authority.

The BPR&D works on improving policing standards through research, training, modernisation and capacity building.

Her new assignment will place her in an organisation that supports the development of police institutions across the country.

Why These Appointments Matter

The latest appointments involve two important border guarding forces and the country’s principal police research and development institution.

While the ITBP and BSF focus on operational security responsibilities, the BPR&D contributes to strengthening police training, professional practices and institutional capabilities.

Together, the appointments reflect the movement of experienced IPS officers into senior leadership roles across India’s security administration.

The Ministry of Home Affairs published the appointment notifications on October 14, 2026.
