The Andhra Pradesh government has transferred 2019 batch IAS officer Vikas Marmat from his position as Project Director of the Kuppam Area Development Authority following a police case registered in Bengaluru over an alleged altercation at a pub.

According to reports, the transfer order was issued on October 14 by the state government. Marmat has been directed to report to the General Administration Department for further posting. The Chittoor District Collector has been asked to make temporary arrangements for the Kuppam Area Development Authority post.

The development follows an incident at a Bengaluru establishment on October 10, when police personnel conducting an inspection reportedly faced an altercation involving Marmat and three others. Bengaluru police registered a case alleging obstruction, abuse and assault of police personnel.

The allegations are under investigation and should not be treated as established findings. The transfer is an administrative decision, and no conclusion about criminal liability can be drawn from the order alone.

The episode has drawn attention to the responsibilities of public servants and the standards of conduct expected from officers holding senior administrative positions. The next posting of Marmat has not yet been announced.
