Reclaiming Vishwa Guru: IndiGlobal Founder Charts Bold Vision for Indian Education

Sudheer Goutham

Hyderabad: The third edition of the IndiGlobal Education Festival kicked off on a spirited and forward-looking note, with a powerful inaugural address by Mr. Sudheer Goutham, Founder, CEO & Editor-in-Chief of IndiGlobal Media Network. Welcoming delegates from across the country, Mr. Goutham called the event “a celebration of innovation and learning,” while setting the tone for two days of transformative conversations in the education sector.

“This gathering is not just an event; it’s a movement to reimagine Indian education,” he said, addressing an audience of educationists, policy leaders, and skilling experts. Noting the presence of several repeat participants from earlier editions, he underscored the Festival’s growing relevance in shaping the national dialogue on education reform.

A Call to Revive Core Engineering and Beyond

One of the key themes Mr. Goutham raised was the declining interest in core engineering disciplines like mechanical and civil engineering. “These foundational areas are being overshadowed by the rush towards computer science and AI,” he remarked. “We need to make core engineering attractive again — not just for students, but for faculty too — through immersive programs and meaningful curriculum reforms.”

The conference, he said, would feature dedicated sessions on addressing this imbalance, alongside panels focused on AI-driven transformation in education, faculty development, and global mobility for Indian students.

From Knowledge Seekers to Knowledge Leaders

Striking a deeply patriotic note, Mr. Goutham urged institutions to look beyond global benchmarks and aim to set them. “India was once a Vishwa Guru — a global teacher — and we must reclaim that legacy. We should build an ecosystem where students return home not just out of necessity, but out of purpose.”

He emphasized the importance of marrying global ambition with Indian values and called on institutions to become “magnetic centres of learning that inspire talent to return, innovate, and serve the motherland with pride.”

Celebrating Excellence and Vision

The event also marked the presentation of the prestigious IndiGlobal Awards, recognizing excellence and innovation in education and skilling. The awardees were selected by an esteemed jury comprising leaders from the education sector and government bodies.

Mr. Goutham extended heartfelt thanks to distinguished guests including Dr. Pankaj Mittal, General Secretary, Association of Indian Universities; Sita Lakshmi, Secretary of Telangana Tribal Welfare Educational Institutions; T. Kishen Reddy, Vice Chancellor of JNTU Hyderabad; Dr. Anil Kashyap, Chancellor of NICMAR University; and Dr. L. Ganesan, the founding Director of IIT Madras.

Special mention was made of Shri Srikanth Sinha, whose rigorous curation of speakers and topics has been instrumental in shaping the success of the third edition.

A Platform for Policy, Practice, and Purpose

“We at IndiGlobal can only build platforms like this,” Mr. Goutham concluded. “But it is the leaders — on and off the dais — who must carry forward the mission. Let us shape a future where the world looks to India not just for talent, but for leadership in education.”

With that, the inaugural session of the IndiGlobal Education Festival 2025 began — not just as an event, but as a call to action.
