Charanjit Singh Channi has been sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Punjab after the resignation of Amarinder Singh as the CM of the state. With this he becomes Punjab’s first Dalit Sikh Chief Minister. He took charge with two deputy CMs – Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and Om Prakash Soni who have been chosen carefully taking into consideration, the polls of Punjab which is just 4 months away. The new CM, 58 has been MLA for three times and is being considered close to Punjab Congress Chief Navjot Singh Sidhu.
The swearing in ceremony was attended by Rahul Gandhi but skipped by the former Chief Minister, Amrinder Singh. While congratulating the new CM, the Prime Minister mentioned, “Congratulations to Shri Charanjit Singh Channi Ji on being sworn-in as Punjab’s Chief Minister. Will continue to work with the Punjab government for the betterment of the people of Punjab,” in his tweet.
