We signed MoUs with over 90 companies for hands on training: K N Subramanya

Take us through the growth of RV College

RV college of engineering was established in 1963 and it is under the public charitable trust called Rashtreeya Sikshana Samithi Trust  which runs more than 24 institutions simultaneously starting from kindergarten to higher education except the medical field we have all the higher education under our trust.

We started with three branches of engineering, now we have 13 disciplines in the undergraduate programs in engineering starting from mechanical to civil to electrical and electronic to instrumentation to telecommunication chemical engineering bio technology & industry engineering and with specialization in computer science. We are starting two programs this year with this we will offer 15 disciplines in under-graduate and 16 post- graduate programmes.

AI and ML & data science and defence and cyber security are the need of the hour.  The focus is on outcome based education and experiential learning. We have been setting the dimension of outcome based industry institution interaction at the same time developing moral ethical values in students.

What measures have been taken to provide hands-on training?

We have signed MoUs with more than 90 companies which are active. Recently we started the Center of Excellence and the Center of Competencies.   The Center of Excellence is related to the center of up skilling. It starts from actually solar maintenance and the skill development in the hardware and the software. The Center of Competencies is a bit different mode of doing the research.

We have a center of excellence in microelectronics part of a World Bank project. Cisco has set up a lab in IoT and invested Rs 3 crores to take up research in the field of IoT in the state of Karnataka. Recently we have got a project from Wipro worth Rs 5 crores where we are working on the autonomous vehicles in terms of the national data set in the traffic and also the driver simulation so that we can do the AI & ML algorithms to simulate the driver condition for Indian roads.

We are also working on e-mobility through Greaves Cotton, the company is in two-wheeler electric vehicles segment. Similarly, we have a Quantum Computing Center with IBM and are also going in with AI and ML with the Boston Consulting Group. We have a center for hydrogen on green technology and we are working with the companies who are involved in this and hydrogen being one of the most important energy resources in the future.

What measures are taken to keep the faculty updated with latest changes?

We have 350 plus faculty in the institution out of which 225 are the P hD holders. We spend a lot of money and time in creating an ecosystem for giving the seed funding  for research work. Last year our papers were in the Weber science high impact journals. We send the faculty on sabbatical to industry. For example two of our faculties were sent to IIT Kanpur for six months. Two of our faculties were sent to Mercedes Benz to get a certification course in mechatronics. Some of the faculty have been working through consultancy for some time in the industry.

Where RV College of Engineering stands in embracing the technology?

Technology is developing very fast. In terms of technology, we have all the latest software and hardware. We have 90 commercial software for all academic purposes and skill development in the area of IT & ITES. All the software is placed in a data centre and we are among the first to use the mat lab.

We have high performance computing centers where we can take the scalable data and do processing using GPUs. We have more than 10 in number. Nvidia has sponsored many of the aspects. The DST Project is also there. On the telecommunication part we have a total hub developed for the telecommunication network in the institution. With lots of features and routers. We have one GBPS internet connectivity and we are going to increase this further as the younger generation is trying to use two to three mobile phones at the same time. I think this is a continuous process of enhancing the internet bandwidth. We have a very good storage space in the institution where in the infrastructure side we have invested more than Rs 10 to 12 crores on the development of the IT infrastructure.

We have also implemented the SAP which is a ERP software which takes care of all of our attendance and financial accounting. We are one of the few institutions in the country to implement this total ERP software using SAP & AWS is our Cloud Partner for storage of the data.

What is the vision of RV College?

RV College student strength is 6,000. We would like to take it for 10,000. We are already in the 5-7 ranking and are looking to enhance that.      We have already started implementing the national education policy from the 2021 batch. In the next decade we would like to figure among top 200-500 world ranking colleges in the next decade.
