Unmarried women allowed to apply for NDA and Naval Academy exams by order of Supreme Court

Following the Supreme Court verdict, the Union Public Service Commission has allowed unmarried women to apply for National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examinations. According to the official statement, in compliance with the interim direction of apex court, UPSC will be opening the application on upsconline.nic.in to enable eligible unmarried women candidates to apply for the UPSC NDA and Naval Academy Exams (II) scheduled on November 14. The application window is open for women candidates from September 24 to October 8 (6 PM). For applying to this examination, women candidates are exempted from paying fee.

Centre’s plea to defer this year’s National Defence Academy (NDA) exam for women candidates, was rejected by the Apex Court on the account that it doesn’t want women to be denied their right. “The induction of women cannot be postponed by one year. This won’t send the right signal to women after having given them the aspiration. Let’s begin from this year. We cannot delay things by a year. We gave hope to the girls. We cannot deny them that hope now,” the bench observed.
