This is the best time for self-employment, entrepreneurship and startups and the youth need to take advantage of the startup ecosystem being created by state governments and the Government of India said P Narahari, Secretary, MSME Dept, Govt of Madhya Pradesh while addressing the large gathering at the IndiGlobal Bharat Summit 2023 that concluded at IIT-Guwahati recently.
Speaking about the turnaround in the startup space, he said that ever since the Government of India (GoI) initiated Startup Programme within a span of seven years, 85 thousand startups were established in India and Madhya Pradesh too was doing extremely well. He further added that Madhya Pradesh has a startup policy and 2,750 startups were established in the state and many are on the verge of becoming unicorns.
Motivating the students among the audience, Mr Narahari asked them to visit incubation centres and understand how it works. The Government of India (GoI) is facilitating budding startups with funding and till date Rs 10,000 crore funds have helped startups. The scheme-Dual Vocational Training System in vocational schools has been successful and is being replicated in other countries such as China and Korea he stated.
Sharing the successful startup policies of other countries he said that the Govt of Rwanda started a programme in 2018 with a one-year intensive training programme in software development which yielded good results with more than 500 trained in skills. Chile too started a programme and were able to create 10,000 jobs in which more than 2,000 startups were mentored and helped in funding.
Mr Narahari said that this was the best time for student community to take advantage of the eco-system. There is a huge leap in governance and it is an era of self-employment and startups. If India is to become a major economic power, it was essential for the youth to enter the fray and add value to the startup eco-system.
