In a significant administrative decision, the Telangana government has reappointed senior IAS officer M. Dana Kishore as Special Chief Secretary to the Governor, ensuring continuity in the functioning of the Governor’s Secretariat beyond his scheduled retirement from the Indian Administrative Service.
Dana Kishore, a 1996 batch IAS officer, is due to retire on October 31, 2026. The government reportedly issued the reappointment order on October 28, just three days before his superannuation.
The decision was reported as G.O.Rt.No.1554 issued by the General Administration Department under the authority of Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju. The government is expected to notify the terms and conditions of the post-retirement appointment separately.
Continuity at the Governor’s Secretariat
Dana Kishore is already serving as Special Chief Secretary to the Governor, a position listed by the Telangana Governor’s office. His reappointment allows him to continue in that role after completing his regular IAS service.
The Governor’s Secretariat handles official communications, administrative coordination and matters requiring the Governor’s attention. Continuity in senior leadership can help maintain established procedures and coordination between the Governor’s office and the state government.
A Senior Officer with Experience Across Key Departments
Over his administrative career, Dana Kishore has held significant responsibilities in the Telangana government, including senior assignments connected with Panchayat Raj, Rural Development and the Governor’s Secretariat.
Before the latest reshuffle, he was serving as Special Chief Secretary for Panchayat Raj and Rural Development alongside responsibilities at the Governor’s office. Under the October 28 IAS transfers, Navin Mittal was posted to the Panchayat Raj and Rural Development portfolio.
The decision therefore marks a transition in Dana Kishore’s administrative responsibilities, with his continued service centred on the Governor’s Secretariat.
Reappointment Comes Amid Major IAS Reshuffle
The decision coincides with a wider reorganisation of Telangana’s senior bureaucracy. On October 28, the government issued transfer and posting orders involving several senior IAS officers, including Jayesh Ranjan, Navin Mittal, Vikas Raj and Shailaja Ramaiyer.
The reshuffle brought changes across departments responsible for energy, rural development, environment, revenue, transport and public health. Dana Kishore’s reappointment stands apart because it extends his association with the state administration beyond scheduled retirement.
Terms of Appointment Awaited
Although the reappointment has been reported, details regarding the duration of his new tenure, remuneration and other service conditions are yet to be notified. These details will determine the formal structure of his post-retirement assignment.
For now, the decision ensures that an experienced senior administrator will continue supporting the functioning of the Governor’s Secretariat. As Telangana undertakes changes across its senior administrative leadership, the reappointment reflects an emphasis on institutional continuity.
