Banwarilal Purohit is not only the Governor of Tamil Nadu and Punjab but would be holding charge of Union Territory of Chandigarh Administrator, as well. According to the statement released from the President’s office, “The President of India has been pleased to appoint Banwarilal Purohit, Governor of Tamil Nadu to discharge the functions of the Governor of Punjab, in addition to his own duties from the date he assumes the charge of the office of Governor of Punjab until regular arrangements are made. The President of India has also been pleased to appoint Banwarilal Purohit to be the Administrator of Union Territory of Chandigarh, in addition to his duties as Governor of Punjab.”
Purohit has some Chandigarh connections as he had got ownership of the Nagpur daily newspaper, The Hitavada from the Servants of India Society in 1979. He is its current managing editor. Purohit has served as the Governor of Assam (2016). He has also held offices of the Governor of Meghalaya (2017), and has been a Member of the Lok Sabha from 1984–1991.
