SSB Chief Sanjay Singhal Assigned Additional Charge as ITBP Director General

Sanjay Singhal

Sanjay Singhal, Director General of the Sashastra Seema Bal, has been assigned additional charge of Director General of the Indo Tibetan Border Police, according to reports citing a Union Home Ministry decision.

Singhal is a 1993 batch IPS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre. The additional responsibility is expected to take effect following the retirement of ITBP Director General Shatrujeet Singh Kapoor on October 31.

The arrangement would place Singhal at the helm of two central armed police forces during the interim period. The SSB guards India’s borders with Nepal and Bhutan, while the ITBP has a major role along the India China frontier.

An additional charge arrangement is distinct from a regular appointment to the post. It allows administrative continuity while the government decides on a permanent leadership arrangement or issues further orders.

The transition will be watched closely because both forces carry substantial border security and operational responsibilities.
