Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani has expressed that all initiatives will be taken to fulfil the nutritional requirements of children and women. She said this while virtually addressing all Anganwadi Workers across the country as part of the POSHAN Maah celebrations. In the video conference, Mrs Irani said that with POSHAN 2.0, Anganwadi centres will be provided better infrastructure so that they become more competent.
She expressed thankfulness towards all the Anganwadi Workers and Anganwadi helpers for their determination and tireless efforts to ensure overall enhancement of the condition of women and children. She asked for their views and suggestions which can be incorporated in POSHAN 2.0. and told them to send the same to her so that she can work upon them. During the video conference, Irani also informed that a Special Insurance scheme is being setup for all Anganwadi Workers. She said that the State Governments have been requested to provide details so that insurance cover can be provided accordingly. The minister encouraged Anganwadi Workers to ensure that Poshan Vatikas are setup at the anganwadi centres during this month-long celebration of POSHAN Maah.
The Poshan Abhiyaan was launched in March 2018 by PM Modi as the flagship program of the Indian government with the aim to improve nutritional outcomes for children, pregnant women and lactating mothers. Since then it is being celebrated each year in the month of September as POSHAN Maah to boost efforts in order to meet goals.
