PM Narendra Modi is all set to meet US President Joe Biden on September 24. This will be the first in-person summit of leaders of the “Quad” countries – India, Australia Japan and the United States hosted by Biden. The summit will be held at the White House and would be focused on deepening the ties and advancing practical cooperation on areas such as COVID-19, the climate crisis, partnering on emerging technologies and cyberspace, and promoting a free and open Indo-Pacific. Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with Australian and Japan counterparts Scott Morrison and Yoshihide Suga is expected in the US next week to attend the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
A virtual meeting of leaders of the Quad countries have already taken place in March this year. The discussion revolved around China’s assertiveness and its growing power. The leaders had pledged in the meeting to work closely on COVID-19 vaccines, climate crisis, and to ensure a free and open Indo-Pacific in the wake of challenges from China.
