Giving a thrust to the goal of a garbage free state, Organic Waste Convertors were commissioned at three schools in Thiruvananthapuram City by LSGD Minister M B Rajesh at SMV School to manage food waste and organic waste generated within school premises on Friday. The project is funded through Smart Cities Mission and implemented by Anert.

The Minister for local Self Government, M B Rajesh earlier this year said that the Kerala Government was taking steps to develop a self-reliant and sustainable waste management system to achieve the goal of a garbage-free state by next year.

It may be noted that the government launched the Malinya Muktham Nava keralam campaign to achieve the goal of garbage-free Kerala.

During the first phase of the campaign, doorstep waste collection increased to 80 percent. The state government plans to create a legal framework to make the state waste-free by 2026.
