Potential and Energy of youth in North East is unparalleled and so is the passion for adoption of new technologies and services, said, Abhishek Singh (IAS), President & CEO, National e-Governance Division (NeGD), MD & CEO, Digital India Corporation (DIC) and CEO of Karmayogi Bharat, Government of India. He was speaking on the topic “Digital Future–Skill and Employment” in virtual mode in the valedictory programme of the two-day IndiGlobal Bharat Summit held in IIT Guwahati on February 27 and 28.
The states of North East make up for nearly 3.7 percent of the country’s population. The contribution to the country’s GDP is almost a similar figure. There is a misconception about North East’s contribution to national income, but this stat shows contribution is a major and higher one, he stressed. Hence, there is a greater need and push for investments in infrastructure, airports, connectivity in the region, opined the senior bureaucrat from 1995 batch of Nagaland cadre.
“North East is connected by a small patch of land to the mainland. In this backdrop, use of technology is key to bridge the geographically distant issue.”
Through Optical Fibre Connectivity (OFC), reaching every village in NER is possible. High-speed internet allows access to every information for anyone sitting in any part of India. Bharat Net and 5G projects and Bhashini platform by the union government will ensure technology accessible to all and also benefit sectors like education, healthcare, agriculture etc, he said.
Technology is expanding big time. Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning are made applicable in every aspect of life.
We are creating Data Labs in ITIs and Polytechnics across India to skill the students on digital technologies. This conference will surely lay the roadmap for skilling students and using e-services to leverage all available resources in Assam, Abhishek Singh said.
