Karnataka: In a significant administrative reshuffle that could influence the functioning of Karnataka’s governance and law enforcement machinery, the state government has appointed senior IPS officer Chandragupta as the new Inspector General of Police (Intelligence). The move comes as part of a wider transfer exercise involving several senior IAS and IPS officers across key departments.

The appointment places Chandragupta at the helm of Karnataka’s Intelligence wing, one of the most crucial branches of the police force responsible for gathering information on law and order, internal security, political developments, and emerging threats. He replaces Labhu Ram, who had been heading the intelligence department. The transfer is being viewed as an important administrative decision at a time when Karnataka continues to navigate complex political and governance challenges.

The reshuffle was notable not only because of its scale but also because it was carried out on a Sunday, an uncommon occurrence in state bureaucracy. Alongside Chandragupta’s appointment, the government introduced a newly created position, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister (Programme and Project Implementation), and appointed senior IAS officer Munish Moudgil to the role. The objective is believed to be improving monitoring and execution of key government projects and welfare initiatives.

Several other senior bureaucrats were also reassigned. Veteran officer Anjum Parwez was appointed Additional Chief Secretary to the Forest, Ecology and Environment Department, while changes were made in the Urban Development, Transport, Co-operation, and Road Safety departments. The transfers indicate the government’s efforts to strengthen administrative coordination and streamline governance across multiple sectors.
