Kerala Govt pushes for EV skill development

The Government of Kerala through ANERT, SITTR focuses on Electric vehicle Skill Development for Polytechnic Faculty funded by GIZ and executed by EV Masterclass

In a bid to give a fillip to the rising electric vehicle industry and strengthen the skilled talent pool, ANERT and GIZ in association with EV Masterclass initiated a Faculty Development Program in electric vehicles for the entire state. This initiative is funded by GIZ as part of their Indo-German Programme for Vocational Education and Training (IGVET).

Indo-German Programme for Vocational Education and Training (IGVET II) under GIZ has developed EV course curriculum with the support of IIT Mumbai to be introduced in various polytechnics across the country.

This two week program was officially inaugurated by Shri. K. R. Jyothilal IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Power; Shri. Narendra Nath Veluri, IFS, CEO ANERT; Dr. Ramachandran M, Sr. Joint Director (PS), Directorate of Technical Education, Mr. Sandeep Kosaraju, Technical Advisor, GIZ and Mr. Y S R Rajeev Kumar, Founder CEO EV Masterclass at SITTR office, Ernakulam, Kochin.

“Kerala has been the land of innovation and technological prowess and this kind of electric vehicle master trainer program rightly equips our youth to exploit the exponential opportunities being created in the Electric Vehicle Industry,” said K R Jyothilal IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Power. He further added that the Government is taking many initiatives to deploy the state of the art latest technologies such as Green Hydrogen Fuel cell applications, manufacturing and making them accessible to the people of Kerala. With programs as such conducted by EV Masterclass,

Narendranath, IFS, CEO ANERT emphasized the importance of developing talent and skill among the youth of Kerala. He added that Kerala has the best infrastructure for ITI and Diploma and has committed to set up centers of excellence to support further development of Electric Vehicle Talent pool in the state. With initiatives as such, he is hopeful that Kerala becomes the power house of skilled EV Talent not only to the country but to the world.

This is a perfect blend of theoretical engineering and practical applications through well-crafted curriculum and designed experiments all from the Industry’s perspective,” said Rajeev YSR, Founder CEO, EV Masterclass. GIZ has already trained few hundreds of trainers across the country in collaboration with various state governments and has ambitious targets of increasing the beneficiaries. These beneficiaries in turn are expected to train the Polytechnic students across the state and thus make the state the power house of EV Talent not just for India but for the world.

The Program trains 30 selected faculty from various polytechnic institutions, who up on the completion of the course will be able to teach the same to the students across polytechnics.

This program not only covered deeper technical aspects of electric vehicles such as Batteries, Power Train, BMS, Vehicle Dynamics etc but also the policy framework and business opportunities in Electric Vehicle Industry.

As part of on the job training, the participants were able to design and build the battery pack for an electric 2 wheeler and test the same.

This program will be rolled across the state of Kerala as an elective, thus making Kerala the power house of EV Talent.
