Guwahati:

“Insurance cover for the unorganised sector should be viewed as a business opportunity and insurance companies should deepen their insurance cover to people working in malls, domestic workers, those working in lorries and buses and small establishments,” said B Kalyan Chakravarthy, IAS, Principal Secretary, Labour Welfare Dept, Govt of Assam. He was speaking at the Bima Lokpal Day here on Friday at a meet organised by the Office of the Insurance Ombudsman, Guwahati Centre.

He further stated that insurance penetration in India is low as compared to the west and added that banks and financial institutions charge just one or two percent interest for those who wish to set up businesses as opposed to high interest rates in India.
