Cumulative vaccine coverage set to breach 200 crore mark

India is nearing yet another milestone when it comes to Covid-19 vaccination. The country is on the verge of touching 200 crore vaccine doses coverage in the coming days. As of July 4, India’s cumulative vaccine coverage crossed 198 crore.
According to Union Health Ministry, more than 11.05 crore balance and unutilized vaccine doses are still available with various States and Union Territories paving way for crossing the 200 crore milestone shortly. It may be noted that the nationwide vaccination against Covid-19 commenced on January 16, 2021.
The vaccination drive has been ramped up by the Centre through availability of more vaccines, advance visibility of vaccine availability to States and UTs for enabling better planning by them, and streamlining the vaccine supply chain.
As part of the nationwide vaccination drive, the Union government has been supporting the States and UTs by providing them Covid vaccines free of cost.In the new phase of universalization of the vaccine drive that commenced from June 21 last year, the Centre has been procuring and supplying free of cost 75 percent of vaccines being produced by the vaccine manufacturers to States and UTs.
