India reports its second Monkeypox case

India reported its second Monkeypox case on Monday and this also happens to be from Kerala. A 31 year old man from Kannur district tested positive for this disease. He was admitted to Pariyaram Medical College Kannur. The person returned to his native state from Dubai on July 13.

According to Health Minister Veena George the patient was admitted to a hospital with symptoms of the zoonotic disease. His sample was sent to NIV, Pune, where it was confirmed as a monkeypox infection. The health condition of the patient is satisfactory. People who were in close contact with him were traced and put in surveillance. Meanwhile, the Union government has told all States to take up strict screening of all international passengers at airports and ports. It may be recalled that India reported its first case of monkeypox on Thursday.
