India hosts NSA-level summit on Afghanistan

India is host nation of a regional summit on 10th November to discuss the ongoing situation in neighboring Afghanistan. This summit is centered around the issues following the fall of the democratically-elected government and the subsequent Taliban takeover of Afghanistan. National Security Advisor (NSA) to the Prime Minister of India, Ajit Doval is the chairman of the summit. It is being attended by his seven counterparts from Iran, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan. This is the first time that not just Afghanistan’s immediate land neighbors, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan – are participating in discussions in this format, rather other Central Asian countries are participating too. China and Pakistan were invited for the summit as well but they declined. This summit is part of India’s efforts to stay in sync with the latest developments to address the situation in Afghanistan as a country belonging to the same continent and relevant security issues.
