The energy conservation awards provide motivation to the recipients but paradoxically, they are the ones who are well aware of its importance and do everything that is needed to conserve energy. The need of the hour however, is to spread awareness in rural areas and to people who have no clue about energy conservation. “It is time to include a lesson on energy conservation in school curriculum,” said Energy Minister, Government of Telangana.

He was speaking at the 6th Telangana State Energy Conservation Awards 2022 here on Tuesday.

D Prabhakar Rao, CMD, TSTRANSCO & TSGENCO said, “Industry oriented power policy has paid dividends. The transformation of power sector in Telangana State has become a case study for the entire nation.” He added, “The T&D losses is 10% as the national average of 18%. While nationwide coal crisis affected most states, Telangana was able to tide over thanks to preparedness by maintaining sufficient coal stocks.”

Echoing a similar sentiment, Raghuma Reddy, CMD, TSSPDCL said that since the formation of Telangana State, the power supply, production and distribution has gone up several notches. There is an increase in solar roof tops, promotion of agri-pumpsets and distribution of LED bulbs. 2,70,000 9 watts bulbs have been distributed to households in panchayats.” He further added, “8882 smart metres have been installed in Jeedimetla industrial area.”

On the occasion, Conserve@TSREDCO, the second edition of the magazine on energy conservation was launched.

Sunil Sharma, Special Chief Secretary, Energy Department said that TSREDCO has been doing good work be it in promoting electric vehicles, solar policy and making ECBC norms mandatory.” Y Sathish Reddy, chairman, TSREDCO drew the attention towards protecting the environment and exhorted the students present to always turn off the lights and fans when they leave their respective rooms. He also said that one has to pay a heavy price due to pollution as is the case in Delhi as the hospitals are flooded by patients. He added, The Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s initiation of planting trees through Haritha Haram program has been a huge success as 268 crore trees were planted in the last eight years resulting in the increase of forest cover by 4 per cent. N Janaiah, VC & MD, TSREDCO thanked the participants and congratulated the awardees.
