IIT Madras does it again! Tops in NIRF 2022 ranking in overall category

  • The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) was released by education minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Friday.
  • IIT Madras bagged first position in Overall and Engg categories. This is the fourth consecutive year in Overall category and 7th in engg. category
  • Four institutions from Telangana made it to overall top-50 list
  • Many private engineering  colleges and varsities from TS namely SR University, Vignana Jyothi Institute of Technology, Anurag University, Gokaraju Ranga Raju Institute, Mahindra University, CBIT, CVR College of Engineering, Vidya Jyothi Institute of Technology made the top-200 best colleges list

IIT Madras has bagged the first position among all institutions in the country in “Overall” category in NIRF Rankings 2022. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan released the rankings list on Friday. Indian Institute of Science (IISc Bengaluru), IIT Bombay secured second and third places respectively. IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Roorkee, IIT Guwahati, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi were the other top institutions in the order that made up the top-10 list. In fact the top-10 list has seven IITs in it.

Telangana shines
Telangana State has done remarkably well with four institutions (IIT-Hyderabad, University of Hyderabad (UoH), National Institute of Technology- Warangal, Osmania University making it to overall top-50 list. IIT-Hyderabad secured 14th rank, UoH 20th, NIT-Warangal 45th and Osmania University stood in 46th position.

University
If we consider just University rankings, IISc Bengaluru, JNU New Delhi and Jamia Millia Islamia-New Delhi stood in the top-3. In this category, UoH made a mark by securing 10th rank. OU was placed in 22nd position.

Engineering
IIT-Madras stood on the top of the tree even in Engineering category repeating its super show like in Overall rankings. IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay made up the top-3 list. IIT Hyderabad secured ninth rank and NIT Warangal 21st rank. IIIT Hyderabad (62nd place), JNTU Hyderabad (76), SR University, Warangal (91), Vignana Jyothi Institute of Technology (113), OU Engineering College (117), Anurag University (140), Gokaraju Ranga Raju Institute of Engineering and Technology (148), Mahindra University (154), Vardhaman College of Engineering (162), CBIT Hyderabad (166), CVR College of Engineering (170) and Vidya Jyothi Institute of Technology (200) made it to the top-200 best engineering institutions in the country.

Medical
AlIMS, New Delhi, Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh and Christian Medical College, Vellore stood in top-3 places in the Medical institutions category. However, no medical college from Telangana secured a place in the list of best medical institutes in the country.

Dental
Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences-Chennai, Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Udipi and Dr DY Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune secured top-3 ranks in Dental category. No institution from Telangana made it to the best Dental institutes list.

Management
It was IIMs show all the way with Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Calcutta branches bagging the coveted top-3 positions. ICFAI, Hyderabad secured 32nd rank, IMT Hyderabad 75th and management wing of UoH bagging a commendable 94the place overall in management institutions in the country.

Pharmacy
NIPER (National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research), Hyderabad branch got laurels to Telangana State by securing all India 2nd rank in Pharmacy category. Jamia Hamdard and Panjab University secured first and third ranks respectively. Kakatiya University (44), Anurag University (58), Vishnu Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, Narsapur (67), CMR College of Pharmacy (72) and Gokaraju Rangaraju College of Pharmacy (93) made it to the top-100 list from Telangana.

Research
Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, IIT Madras and IIT Delhi stood in top-3 positions in the Research category. IIT Hyderabad secured 12th place while University of Hyderabad 27th place in best institutions in the country that lay emphasis on Research during studies.

College

Miranda House-Delhi, Hindu College-Delhi and Presidency College-Chennai bagged top-3 ranks in best Colleges category. No college from Telangana made it to the best colleges list in the country.

Law
In best Law institutions from the country, NALSAR-Hyderabad got 4th rank overall. National Law School of India University-Bengaluru, National Law University-New Delhi and Symbiosis, Pune stood at the top of the tree bagging the first three ranks. However, no other law institution apart from NALSAR-Hyderabad found a place in the best-100 list.

Architecture
Indian Institute of Technology-Roorkee, National Institute of Technology-Calicut and Indian Institute of Technology-Kharagpur were ranked as the best 3 institutions when it comes to Architecture category.
