Hyderabad, May 7 — Hyderabad Police Commissioner C.V. Anand and the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) have been awarded top honours for their pioneering efforts in the global fight against narcotics. They secured first place in the ‘Excellence in Anti-Narcotics Award’ category at the prestigious World Police Summit (WPS) 2025.

The award, hosted by Dubai Police, will be formally presented on May 15 at a special ceremony at the Dubai Police Officers Club. The summit, running from May 13 to 15, is a landmark event in global policing, drawing participation from over 138 countries, including elite forces such as the FBI, NYPD, LAPD, Scotland Yard, and other national police agencies.

Hyderabad’s recognition comes after a rigorous, two-stage evaluation process led by an expert jury and Dubai Police. Agencies were judged on critical parameters such as measurable reduction in drug trafficking and consumption, inter-agency cooperation, and meaningful community engagement.

H-NEW’s winning model is rooted in a comprehensive and multi-dimensional strategy. Their approach integrates coordination with national and State-level agencies like the Narcotics Control Bureau, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, Enforcement Directorate, Excise, GST, Counter Intelligence, and the Foreigners Regional Registration Office.

  • Key components of their success include:
  • Disrupting international and interstate drug trafficking networks
  • Leveraging technology to track activity on the dark web
  • Targeted enforcement and deportation of foreign offenders
  • Deep-rooted community outreach and education
  • Emphasis on rehabilitation alongside prosecution

This award positions Hyderabad as a global example in combating narcotics through intelligence-led, collaborative, and humane policing.

Commissioner Anand will receive the award in person, marking a proud moment not only for the city but also for India’s broader anti-drug enforcement efforts.
