- Over 1,200 riders take part in the kids talent identification championship conducted under Dr Maxwell Trevor Cycling Welfare Association
- This is the second edition
- In all, 60 riders have been selected who would undergo training under Dr Maxwell at the OU Velodrome for nationals
- Last year, a few students form the talent identification programme went on to participate in nationals

Hyderabad: The second edition of kids talent identification championship conducted under Dr Maxwell Trevor Cycling Welfare Association (MTCWA) concluded at RRC Grounds on Sunday with 1,282 riders taking part in five age-group categories. Riders accompanied by parents came from not just the twin cities but from Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Andhra Pradesh.
The talent hunt started at 6: 30 a.m. and continued till 6 p.m. Dr Maxwell Trevor said, “This is the second edition and we are overwhelmed by the response. Last year we spotted cyclists during the talent hunt and within five months a few represented Telangana in nationals. We wish to do the same this year as well.”
Venkateshwar Reddy, Chairman, Sports Authority of Telangana State (SATS), Upalla Gupta, Chairman, Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation (TSTDC), S Maninder Pal Singh- Secretary General Cycling Federation of India, Jaykumar, Dy Commissioner Income Tax, Duleep Abraham,Dy Commissioner Customs and Elvis Stevenson MLA graced the occasion.
Talent galore
Six boys and six girls were selected from the following categories; age 6-7, 8-9, 10-11, 12-13 and 14-15. Apart from the above mentioned categories, exceptional riders were spotted and in all 60 have been selected for the special coaching camp.
Lakshan, aged 12 from Chennai said, “I am thrilled to be part of this event. I am also happy that my father Satish Murugesh brought me here. I am enjoying every bit. My aim is to represent my state in nationals.” Another rider, Akarshna came first in the 10-11 age category said that the competition helped her in boosting her confidence.”
Speaking to IndiGlobal Media Network, Satish Murugesh, a parent who came all the way from Tamil Nadu said, “Such events are the need of the hour.” He went on to add, “My son’s coach Amarnath Jayaram in Chennai told us to participate and he has very high regard for Dr Maxwell Trevor. We are not disappointed at all. It was a wonderful experience.”
Parents started reaching the venue from 5 AM onwards. Mujahid Khan, 13, a student of Sree Balaji School, Warasiguda came along with his uncle. He said, “This is the first time I am taking part in cycling competition.” There is always a first time and a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. We are thrilled at the response and are sure under Dr Maxwell, these kids will do wonders,” said Pasha who is the legal advisor for MTCWA and doubled up as the chief coordinator for the event.
