Kaspersky, the Russian Global cybersecurity company and antivirus provider has alerted users about the malicious software called FMWhasapp – the 16.80.0 version. Kaspersky has identified the malicious software as Trojan.AndroidOS.Triada. ef.
Trojan works as a mediator in the FMWhassap Mod. The data from the user’s device gets accumulated by Trojan while one is downloading one of the other Trojans on one’s smartphone. The mods have got more dangerous because of the third-party ad modules.
Apart from ads, the malicious software obstructs the users’ SMS and access users’ Whatsapp account. It is hard for users to identify the potential threat.
Cybercriminals have started to spread malicious files through the Adblock in such apps. That is why Kaspersky recommends use of only messenger software which are downloaded from official app stores. Though they may lack some features, but will be safe from a bunch of unwanted malware on the smartphones of users.
As a preventive step, one should only download the messenger app from trusted sources like Apple and Google Play Store. One needs to also check the app permissions that they have allowed for the installed applications. Being alert this way would prevent malware from entering phones of people.
