Smart City Thiruvananthapuram Hosts Virtual Open Data-2022

Smart City Thiruvananthapuram Limited has organized an online Expert Talk on Open Data as part of “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs on 25th January 2022.
The Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry launched Open Data Week on January 17, 2022 to encourage the adoption of open data and the promotion of innovation across India’s urban ecosystem. All 100 smart cities will participate in the event. The Open Data Week is a part of the series of initiatives being undertaken by MoHUA to promote awareness and use of open data ahead of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav – Smart Cities: Smart Urbanization’ conference, which is scheduled to be held in Surat in February 2022.

I thank all my office staff for arranging this webinar on such a short notice. When we talk about smart cities, we also take these initiatives & I hope this webinar will help us take initiatives in data management & we will have a fruitful discussion on the data week.

 Very basic rule of data is correlation is not causation. The government has to be much more careful when we are dealing with policies & design & rules. The huge amount of data that has been generated being stored in the government is increasing exponentially, As a government to ensure a lot of things so that our data is protected & also we are active in data privacy issues since our motive is to make the citizen’s lives easier we need to start looking at is the exercise of data collection of that particular service delivery from day one.

We have to work for not only the data collection but also we have to see how data is relevant, & how authentic the data has been collected. With better accessibility & availability of data, Cities can be planned and developed in a safer, environmentally friendly place for the people to live in.

NEC, Corporation Japan- The FIWARE as a core of Data Federation developed as a EU FP 7, Innovation Programme to create a standard data management software and publish as open source software, More than 900 organizations have been contributing to evolve its functionalities and data model. The key features of Japan’s City OS is enabling smart services to integrate among them Seamlessly.

 Data is the backbone to planning and operating cities. We are doing the transportation project & managing more than 7 thousand buses in those cities. The Open Data Week has been designed to promote the use of data and spread awareness regarding the benefits of open data such as increased efficiency, innovation, transparency and economic growth. It also highlights how there are many different groups of people and organizations who stand to benefit from the availability of quality open data.
