With one of the most ground-breaking years in medical history now behind us, 2022 is likely to continue this momentum and will continue to change the trajectory of health.

Dr Nikhil Mathur, Chief of Medical Services, CARE Group of Hospitals, Hyderabad:

A major surge in investments in digital healthcare at 80 percent is expected in 2022 as Covid 19 has led to major digital transformations.

The new waves of Covid 19 have presented countless challenges and coping with the diminishing workforce and significantly high burden of non-communicable diseases is an unexpected consequence of the pandemic.

The way forward is a need to focus on addressing future pandemics with digital technology, crisis management, infrastructure growth, supply chain management, investing in technology, research and treatment offerings to be ready for any health crisis.

The Indian healthcare industry is at the point of major digital transformation and according to the report by the Healthcare Information and Management System Society (HIMSS) investment in digital healthcare tools will see an 80 percent growth in the coming five years.

The Year 2022 is expected to witness a steep surge in the use of electronic prescriptions with the idea of reduced paperwork and longevity in storage and very reliable access to the patient’s complete healthcare records, which can help with the early diagnosis of an illness or disease at an early stage. Patients expect diagnostic procedures and treatments to be personalized as per their requirements to integrate their preferences and needs.

Mr Dilip Jose, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Manipal Hospitals: Bengaluru

In 2021 we saw a significant partnership between Government and the healthcare sector to fight the pandemic as well as in the massive vaccination drive that was undertaken by the nation. The results augur well for this collaboration to continue in the future too. While everyone can be proud of the progress made so far, it is imperative to realize that a lot of work still lies ahead. We should strive to reach our vaccination goals as soon as possible in the year 2022. An un-vaccinated population anywhere in the world is a matter of concern as it could give rise to worrisome mutants and therefore a global effort is required to tackle that challenge. The success of our vaccination drive and India’s stature as a leading manufacturer of vaccines could mean that our country would be at the forefront of such a mission.
