Design is the core agenda in architecture and there is a need to choose various tools. For instance, Adobe provides more than 20 software with Photoshop being one of the popular ones, said Dr Ajay Chandran, Dean Architecture, Christ University. He was speaking at the hybrid conference –Adobe Creative Campus: Cultivating Digital Literacy-Engage, Develop and Employ held at Bengaluru here on Friday. Suresh Krishnamurty, Dean Architecture, R V College of Architecture said that architecture was a creative subject and students need to communicate through design and virtual mode.

Exposure important

Exposure to students is important. Tips on entrepreneurship and skilling needs to happen on a continuous basis. Studying a course for five years is just a short span in a career that spans to 40 plus years. Mr Suresh said that students come from Class 12 and are initially into conceptual development and then move on to visualisation and iteration.

Students too need to be given support by hand-holding, encouragement to present papers, ideate, ask critical questions, and the faculty needs to constantly monitor their aspirations. Speak to them if they wish to become entrepreneurs or take up employment, said Dr Ajay.

One of the important aspects is to give students enough time to explore to innovate. Mr Suresh said that they should communicate an idea through graphs, text, voice. Digital framework is very important, document management, work-flow and integrating graphic material and text is to be stimulated.

Keeping abreast with changes in technology

Technology is changing at breakneck speed and teachers too need to keep pace with the latest developments in the world of technology averred both the speakers. “We are digitally exposed and would not be able to keep pace with everything and it is essential for teachers to be aware of changes in technology,” averred Dr Ajay.

Adobe solution consultant Darakshan Khan presented software Adobe Substance 3D Stager that helps architects to create textures and change the material of images in a jiffy and provide an entire experience through design. The panel was moderated by Supreet Nagaraju, Head, Education Digital Media, India and South Asia, Adobe.
