Deakin University, theĀ first foreign university will set up an international branch campusĀ (IBC) at Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City) in an area of 25,000 sq ft, will be developed as a platform for learning, working as well as networking, said Ravneet Pawha, Deakin University vice-president (Global Alliances) and CEO (South Asia).
According to sources, the university is expected to charge half the fee it charges in its home branch of Victoria in Australia when it begins to admit students next June. The tentative fee will be around 50 per cent of the fee being charged in Australia. The focus would be on enabling students to gain critical skills and employability.
The university is designed in such a way that it would foster collaboration between the industry and academia. The ground floor would have dedicated spaces for industry partners, start-ups and entrepreneurs, the top floor would be the dedicated university campus with learning spaces.
Authorities at Deakin University said that it will soon commence the hiring of administrative and academic staff as well issue guidelines for application and enrolment for courses at the GIFT City campus. A team from Australia visited Gandhinagar on Thursday and interacted with over 25 industries to discuss future collaborations with Deakin.
