Students as well as parents demand placements. The curriculum should emphasize on imparting knowledge as well as skill. Young graduates need to be trained in both. There is a need to impart and provide industry skilled graduates said Dr Anil Kashyap, President and Chancellor, NICMAR at the 2nd IndiGlobal Education Festival that concluded on September 17 at Hyderabad.

Dr Anil said that at NICMAR, a great deal of importance is given on imparting skills and a good number of students are blooded into the industry by way of internship. He also exhorted the industry professionals to extend support to institutions by way of internship to equip the youngsters at an early stage.

Speaking about the demographic dividend advantage that India possesses, he shared- There are 500 million people under the age of 24 in the country who can be trained in industry driven set ups. Employability skills are important and that is the way for institutions to take forward the agenda.

The curriculum, he said needs to impart knowledge, skills, attitude and behavior. If one is to nurture a good graduate who can be employable it is imperative that educational institutions give equal importance for the four components. He further added, “It is a two-way process to achieve development; the academic institutions as well as the industry needs to work together and forge ties.”

There is an opportunity for all and the industry should engage the student community in a big way and use young minds.
