Chhattisgarh Bets Big on AI: ₹500-Crore Mission Aims to Build India’s Next Innovation Hub

Chhattisgarh

In a major push towards becoming a technology-driven economy, the Chhattisgarh government has approved a 500-crore Artificial Intelligence (AI) Mission that seeks to transform the state into a centre for innovation, digital governance, and entrepreneurship over the next five years.

The ambitious initiative goes far beyond promoting technology. It is designed to create a robust AI ecosystem by establishing 100 AI Data Labs, setting up five Centres of Excellence, and supporting more than 300 AI startups. The mission also focuses on preparing the state’s workforce for the future by providing AI training to six lakh students and 1.5 lakh government employees.

A key objective of the programme is to make governance smarter and more efficient. The state plans to roll out over 50 AI-powered public services, enabling faster, more transparent, and citizen-friendly delivery of government services. Officials believe these AI-driven solutions can improve decision-making, reduce administrative delays, and enhance public welfare.

The mission has been aligned with the Centre’s IndiaAI Mission, reflecting a broader national effort to strengthen India’s AI capabilities. By combining investments in research, startup support, skill development, and digital infrastructure, Chhattisgarh hopes to attract entrepreneurs, technology firms, and investors while generating new employment opportunities for its youth.

Industry observers see the move as a significant milestone for a state traditionally known for its mineral wealth and industrial base. With this investment, Chhattisgarh is signalling its intent to diversify its economy and emerge as a competitive player in India’s rapidly expanding artificial intelligence landscape.

As AI increasingly shapes industries worldwide, the state’s latest initiative reflects a growing recognition that investing in digital talent and innovation today could lay the foundation for sustainable economic growth and improved public services in the years ahead.
