Delhi: What should have been a simple re-evaluation process for thousands of CBSE Class 12 students turned into a stressful ordeal after the board’s revaluation portal was reportedly hit by a malicious cyberattack, triggering payment glitches and widespread confusion. The incident has once again raised concerns about the reliability of digital systems being used in one of India’s most important education processes.
According to government sources, the attack targeted the payment gateway integrated with the CBSE post-result portal. Around 50 students were affected when the system began displaying bizarre fee amounts during transactions. While some students reportedly saw charges as low as Re 1, others were shocked to find payment demands touching nearly ₹67,000 to ₹68,000 instead of the standard re-evaluation fee. Officials suspect the manipulation was carried out either as a prank or with malicious intent.
The disruption came at a time when students were already anxious about the ongoing controversy surrounding CBSE’s newly introduced On-Screen Marking (OSM) system. Many students across the country have been raising concerns over evaluation discrepancies, incorrect scans of answer sheets, and technical glitches in the rechecking process.
In response, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has stepped in, directing officials to resolve the issues quickly and ensure students are not unfairly affected. Experts from IIT Madras, IIT Kanpur, and the Digital Infrastructure Corporation of India have been brought in to strengthen the system, while additional payment gateways from public sector banks have been integrated to prevent future disruptions.
CBSE has now reopened and strengthened the portal, assuring students that corrective measures are being taken. For many families, however, the incident has highlighted how technical failures can directly impact students already under immense academic pressure. As investigations continue, students and parents are hoping for a smoother, more transparent process that restores confidence in the board’s digital evaluation system.
