A healthcare management specialist and a Cancer Conqueror,

Dr K Hari PrasadPresident of Apollo Hospital Group says: Cancer is a treatable, curable disease. It is also a lifestyle disease. People need to believe that it is preventable and also curable. For me, it was a chance drawing of blood which showed abnormal cells and led to diagnosis of cancer. I did not take chemotherapy or radiation and was on alternative treatment. This required being in a room till the treatment was completed. For me, it was tough and I spoke to my office that I would like to continue to work and they supported me by allowing me to work. Family support played a major role and they were all by my side. After I was cured, I realized that it was my lifestyle disease of hypertension, diabetes and chewing tobacco which led to my cancer condition.

Dr Amit K Jotwani, Co-Founder of Onco.com says: Cancer treatment requires that patients and their families talk to doctors, ask the right questions and not depend on Google knowledge to understand the disease. Cancer treatment is not only the treatment of the body of the patient but the side effects take a toll on the body and mind. The patient needs supportive care in terms of nutrition, psychological support, and also the caregivers and families require support as they also suffer along with the patient. It is one disease where apart from the patient the family’s involvement in the treatment of the disease plays a huge role. Cancer treatments are evolving and there are many aspects that doctors are also still learning. For patients to check on the right treatment for them is very important for the best cure.

Dr Manjri Bakre, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Oncostem Diagnostics Pvt Ltd says: Awareness about cancer is increasing and the number of patients who are diagnosed early is being seen now. Getting diagnosed early is very important as the disease can then be cured. The early treatment offers hope for quality life later. There are many tools which are now available and we are working closely with Government Hospitals also where the cases are high.

Arnab Roy Chowdhury, Founder/ Director at MESTASTOP SOLUTIONS PVT LTD says: Growth and spread of cancer cells is our focus area. As scientists, we are focusing on drug discovery for treatment. But we need that the researchers in India are supported so that the drugs ‘Made In India’ can be provided at affordable prices. Presently, we are dependent on West for research and drug discovery. This makes medicines expensive. We must have a conducive climate in India for research and the making of new medicines.
