Robotic oncology centre has been set up by Apollo Proton Cancer Centre (APCC), Chennai which is the first Proton Therapy Centre in South Asia & the Middle East. This makes possible robot-assisted surgery which is an integration of experience of skilled surgeons with advanced computer technology for comprehensive cancer care.
Advanced fourth-generation ‘Da Vinci Surgical System-Xi’ is available at the unit along with a dedicated team of clinicians to treat patients suffering from cancer through complex surgeries. The robotic arms with endowrists have a 270+360-degree manoeuvrability which is impossible for the human hand. This facility not only increases the precision of surgery but also reduces instances of infections, and makes recovery from major operations much faster leading to reduction in the patient’s length of stay at the unit.
The robot minimizes hand tremors and helps replicate the surgeon’s hand movements while surgery. The surgery is thus done with more control and dexterity, even during the most complicated procedures.
Da Vinci surgical system-Xi helps surgeons to perform complex and delicate surgeries like that of colorectal, urological, gynaecological and thoracic cancer more seamlessly. The system helps in better cancer clearance, without compromising on the preserving of the healthy tissue, by enabling better magnification and better control of dissection for the surgeons.
