AIIMS Delhi develops two apps for mental illness patients and caregivers

All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi has launched two apps for people suffering from chronic mental illnesses. The apps are also meant for the caretakers of such people. Mental illness is being reported more when compared to the past. More and more people have been complaining of anxiety and depression amidst the pandemic.

The applications launched by AIIMS have been named Shaksham and Disha. Shaksham caters to those suffering from chronic mental illness, while Disha is for individuals who have undergone the first episode of symptoms of mental illness. Both the applications have been developed in collaboration with the computer science department of Indraprastha Institute of Technology, Delhi, and the University of Warwick, UK.

This mobile application project has been funded by National Institute of Health Research, UK. The apps are going to be available for free public use from January 2022 onwards. At the moment, focus is on patient data. Once the data restoration is secured, the apps will get formerly launched in January. The apps have a significant feature that enables reminders to care givers of people with mental illnesses for medicines and other such requirements.
