The Uttar Pradesh government has transferred two senior IPS officers, bringing changes to the leadership of the police commissionerates in Gautam Buddha Nagar and Kanpur Nagar.

Sankalp Sharma, a 2012 batch IPS officer who was serving as Joint Commissioner of Police in Kanpur Nagar, has been posted to Gautam Buddha Nagar in the same capacity. His appointment fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Joint Commissioner of Police Rajiv Narayan Mishra on October 31.

Santosh Kumar Mishra, who was serving as Deputy Inspector General of Police at the Police Training School in Jalaun, has been appointed Joint Commissioner of Police in Kanpur Nagar.

The transfer order, reported on November 3, places both officers in senior operational roles in two of the state’s major urban police commissionerates. Gautam Buddha Nagar, which includes Noida, faces policing demands associated with rapid urban growth, large commercial centres and extensive movement of commuters. Kanpur Nagar remains another important centre of urban policing in Uttar Pradesh.

For Sharma, the posting marks a move from Kanpur Nagar to the National Capital Region. An engineering graduate of IIT Roorkee, he joined the Indian Police Service in 2012 and has held several field and administrative assignments in the state.

The changes are limited to two officers but are significant for the day to day functioning and supervision of policing in both commissionerates.
