KARNATAKA: Karnataka has emerged as the state with the highest number of postgraduate (PG) medical seats in the country, reinforcing its status as one of India’s leading destinations for medical education. According to the latest data, the state offers 10,092 PG medical seats, surpassing every other state, with Maharashtra securing the second position.
The figures highlight Karnataka’s strong healthcare education ecosystem, built on a combination of government and private medical institutions that cater to thousands of aspiring specialists every year. The state’s extensive network of medical colleges has consistently attracted students from across India seeking admissions through the NEET-PG counselling process.
Maharashtra follows Karnataka in overall PG medical seat availability, while states such as Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh also feature prominently among the top contributors to postgraduate medical education. The increasing number of seats across these states is expected to improve opportunities for MBBS graduates looking to pursue specialisation in various medical disciplines.
