Extension of Indian visa until September 30 for foreign nationals stranded due to Covid

As per the orders of Union Home Ministry, Indian visa of foreign nationals stranded in India, due to COVID-19 pandemic, has been extended till 30th September from 31st August.

A number of foreigners who had come to India on various types of visas before March 2020 are still stranded in the country due to absence of flights to their destinations.
The Central Government had been granting stay of such foreign nationals in India by extending their regular visa without any overstay penalty. As per the Home Ministry such foreign nationals will not be required to submit any application to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) or FRO for extending their visas till 30th of September. When they exit the country, they can apply online for an exit permission on e-FRRO portal, without levy of any overstay penalty.

As far as the Afghan nationals already in India on any category of visa are concerned, the Ministry would be issuing a separate guideline.
