IIT Hyderabad’s Biggest Pay Day: Student Lands Rs 2.5 Crore Offer

Edward Nathan Varghese

Hyderabad: In a standout achievement that has drawn national attention, a final-year student of the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad has secured a Rs 2.5 crore annual package, the highest ever in the institute’s placement history. The offer comes at a time when campus hiring across the country is marked by caution, making the achievement all the more significant.

The record-breaking offer was bagged by Edward Nathan Varghese, a 21-year-old Computer Science and Engineering student, who received the package from Netherlands-based global trading and technology firm Optiver. The offer was made through a pre-placement offer (PPO) after he successfully completed a summer internship with the firm, showcasing exceptional performance in high-end problem-solving and algorithmic thinking.

A Milestone in a Challenging Placement Season

The Rs 2.5 crore package marks a major leap for IIT Hyderabad, surpassing its previous highest offer of around Rs 1 crore recorded in 2017. Institute officials noted that the current placement season has shown strong recovery at the top end, particularly in Computer Science, despite global economic headwinds affecting overall hiring volumes.

This exposure played a crucial role in cracking the demanding interview and assessment rounds conducted by global quantitative trading firms.
